Welcome from the Superintendent

Welcome to the Unified School District No. 365 school website.  Our school district is located in Anderson County, Kansas about 45 minutes southwest of Kansas City.   Garnett, the county seat, has a population of over 3500 residence and many recreational opportunities including:  golf, fishing, boating, hunting, and other outdoor fitness offerings.  Our school district covers 430 square miles and includes the communities of Westphalia, Greeley, Mont Ida, Harris, Bush City, Welda, and Garnett.  Schools are located in Westphalia, Mont Ida, Greeley, and Garnett.   Anderson County Junior Senior High School is located in Garnett and is the hub for high school students grades nine through twelve.  Anderson County Junior Senior High School is classified as a 4A school according to the high school activities association.

Each school has a proven academic program.  Garnett Elementary, Westphalia Elementary, and Mont Ida Elementary have all averaged 90% proficient and above on the math and reading Kansas state assessment tests.  Mont Ida, a 100% proficient school has received the Governors Award for two years in a row.  Altogether the district has more than 25 standard of excellence recognitions.  This achievement is the effort of a dedicated staff, involved parents, and interested students.

Most recently, the district began construction on a new K – 6 facility in Garnett.  This new building will open August 2012 and replace Garnett Elementary Center and Irving Primary School.  The 500+ student facility will have a gym, kitchen, stage, library, and an instructional wing.  The instructional wing will be built with activity pods to provide extended class learning activity space.  All rooms and activity pods will be equipped with state of the art technology including state of the art video projection systems.  These systems (with short throw projectors) are being piloted in the district by Greeley Elementary and Westphalia Elementary during the 2011-2012 school year.   Other improvement projects are being completed at Westphalia and Greeley schools as well.

Those interested in visiting our school district are encouraged to contact one of the schools or the district office at 785-448-6155.
