What's Going On In GEC?

February has been a very busy month.  Many great things have happened (and will be happening).  We are on a roll!

On Wednesday, February 3, we had our school Spelling Bee.  Two students represented each class, grades 4 through 6.  All the participants did a great job.  Our runner up was John Rundle, a fourth grade student, in Mrs. Graham's class.  The first place student was Trinity Bogle, in Ms. Beach's fourth grade class.  They went on to represent GEC in the Anderson County Spelling Bee.  We are very proud of them!

We sponsored our first Scholastic Book Fair, from February 4 through February 16.  Mrs. Peine, our librarian, was the person responsible for putting this all together, getting volunteers, and putting in countless extra hours to make this event successful.  Thanks to her efforts, the support of the staff, students, and parents, we profited $3000.00, to be used to purchase books for our library and classrooms.  This just goes to prove that a lot of hard work can produce a lot of fun and huge benefits.

The GEC/IPC PTO will have their monthly meeting on Monday, February 22, at 7:00 PM, in the GEC Library.  Work is in full swing for the carnival, and there is much to be done.  Please come and support the PTO and the children.  There will also be a Carnival Work Night on Thursday, February 25, at 6:00 PM, at IPC.  We welcome any and all help for this!

Raffle tickets were handed out at Parent-Teacher Conferences.  If you sell all of them and need more, please have your child pick up more in the office.  Remember to save the date for the carnival - FRIDAY,  MARCH 5, at ACJSHS, from 6:00 PM to 9:00pm.  This is a fun night, and it is the main fundraiser for our school.

Thank you, to all parents, for attending Parent-Teacher Conferences.   It is important to have open communication about your children.  Please feel free to call your child's teacher or myself, at school, if you have any concerns.

Thank you, once again, for the support you show.  We couldn't do what we do, if it weren't for supportive parents.

                                                                   Until next time,

                                                                     Mrs. Alford
