Junior High Special Education Interrelated Resource Classroom

by Debbie Decker

We are looking forward to an exciting new school year 2009-20010! We are here to help insure success for all our students. As your child's resource room teacher, I have the challenging role to design instruction to meet the specific needs of your child to maximize their learning potential.  My job also is to work closely with your child's regular classroom teacher and you, to ensure support is indeed helping the student to reach their full potential. Some students feel a stigma when they go to the resource room. However, their individual needs are usually met better and the positive gains outweigh the negative.  The resource room tends to be less distracting than the regular classroom setting, a small group setting for students to receive direct instruction in study skills, and complete homework assignments. We also support the social needs of your child in a small group setting and will provide behavior interventions.

About Me: I graduated from Benedictine College, Atchison, Kansas in 1980 with a BA in English/Secondary Education. In 1995 I completed my masters degree from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. There I added Reading Specialist and K-12 Special Education Learning Disabilities. This is my 15th year as a special education teacher.  I live on a farm south of Kincaid and raise cattle. I have three grown daughters, all married, one beautiful grandson, and another grandchild on the way!

Our paraprofessionals are 8th grade--Trish Wittman and 7th grade--Tina Wolken.
