Go Hornets!!

Hometown? I grew up mainly in Waverly, Kansas, but also spent eight years in Germany, two in Alabama, and several off and on in Massachusetts, as my father was in the military.  I have traveled extensively and will incorporate those experiences into my teaching.

Educational background?I received my high school education from Waverly High School, where I graduated in 1995 with honors as Honor Student, Salutatorian, and recipient of five academic, character, and leadership scholarships.  I went on to Emporia State University and graduated in December of 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Education (Biology Major, General Science Minor), and now have a provisional Physics endorsement.

Experience? I have previously taught biology and physical science at Meade High School in Meade, Kansas, but moved back to Eastern Kansas due to my husband’s career.  I have also worked as a curriculum coordinator, an administrative position, for a 21st Century Community Learning Center in Iola, KS called SAFE BASE.  Both of these experiences deepened my passion for teaching and for helping students to grow.  I have used my experience to work with grant writers in USD 365 in efforts to establish an after-school program, technology, and an at-risk program within this district.

Future goals?  I am a very goal-driven person.  It is my objective to serve as a mentor and an academic guide to my students in hopes to make them successful independent thinkers.  It is part of my oath to uphold the integrity and honor that comes with being an educator.  Professionally, I am currently a candidate for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.
