Homeless
(McKinney Vento Assistance Act)
The purpose of the federal McKinney-Vento Assistance Act is to assist in removing obstacles to homeless students enrolling in school, assisting them in participating in all school activities provided any other students, and allowing students access to education immediately. All consideration will be given to what is in the best interest of the students, and decisions are made in collaboration with the student's parents or with the assistance of the district's homeless lisison. (Krista Hedrick is the district liaison for homelessness)< Under the federal McKinney-Vento Act, we are expected to provide education for children considered to be homeless.
The district liaison will assist homeless children and youth in enrolling in school, obtaining immunizations and medical records and coordinating transportation to and from school.
